In the Month of Giving Thanks, We Thank our Vendors
If there is any doubt how far the Creamery’s Winter Market has come over the years, you need only poke your head through the doors of the Red Barn this Saturday to be convinced. The first image to meet your eyes will be the tables of Seldom Seen Farm, piled shoulder high with leafy vegetables, root crops, squashes, all imaginable members of the cabbage family, herbs and more, including botanical autumn wreaths for your holiday table. No, you’re not imagining this. It really IS mid-November, and what you are seeing was not shipped from a factory farm thousands of miles away. It was grown right here in Hendricks County and brought to you within hours or days of picking. As you wander further into the Barn, this scene of plenty is repeated at the tables of Homestead Growers, Life Farm, New Leaf Farm, Redwine Farm and Countryside Orchard. Your loyal support over
the years provides the dollars and the incentive for all of these local families to keep growing their farms and expanding their season.
If you are the designated turkey cooker for your Thanksgiving gathering this year, you have no shortage of providers to choose from this year. Luella Porter will be back for the next two weeks with plenty of frozen birds, as will KG Acres from right here in Lebanon (they have both fresh AND frozen available). Rob North of Earthcure Farm (574-892-6351) will return on November 21(he uses only soy-free feed, and features smaller birds for those who don’t need to feed a large crowd of guests). All three farms grow heritage breed birds under pastured conditions with no hormones, antibiotics, or other chemicals. Please see phone numbers below if you need to reserve a bird of a particular size or breed, or need more details on how the birds are grown or fed. If turkey is not the meat on your holiday menu, see Swiss Connection or Phelps family farm for beef, pork or lamb.
While you are visiting and shopping, please say hello to our two newest vendors, Bee Haven Honey, joining us from their farm in Muncie, and Nadines Herbal Remedies, from just down the lane in Zionsville. Food Inc. & the Farm: What a Friday Night!
Thanks to the many of you who came to our first (but not last) free movie night on the Farm!

We had quite a crowd for
Food, Inc.
We love this movie and are so happy to be able to show it to you on the farm! We can't think of a better place to watch a film about the differences between fresh, simple, organic farm food and factory food.
If you saw Food, Inc. in the theater, then you know this documentary is changing people's views on food, the industry that has grown up around it, and how many different (and totally processed) versions of corn exist! If you didn't get the chance to see Food, Inc. earlier, we can't stress enough that you should!
If you weren't able to make it to Food Inc. or you loved it and want to come watch it again - e-mail (events@tpforganics.com) and let us know. If there is enough interest, we will have an encore showing!
Recipe of the Week
Trader's Point Creamery Hot Chocolate
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- 1/3 cup boiling water
- 3 1/2 cups Trader's Point Creamery Whole Milk
- 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan. Blend in the boiling water. Bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch that it doesn't scorch. Stir in 3 1/2 cups of milk and heat until very hot, but do not boil! Remove from heat and add vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs, and let cool to drinking temperature.
Quote of the Week
Let's balance food that people want to eat and corn syrup - we should either subsidize both or neither.
