Welcome Traders Point Creamery's New President

Welcome Traders Point Creamery's New President

Traders Point Creamery is happy to announce our new President, Charles Green. "Chuck" brings a degree of expertise from the dairy industry that would be hard for anyone to match!  He began his career in the early 1970's driving his own ice cream truck and later founded his own distribution company. He joined Ben and Jerry's in 1982 and later became the Senior Director of Sales Distribution and Marketing in North America at Ben and Jerry's where he headed Sales and Marketing. The Dutch Conglomerate Unilever asked Chuck to continue on with them during their acquisition of Ben and Jerry's in the year 2000.  At Unilever, Green was Senior Vice President of strategy for all North American Ice Cream.

As Traders Point Creamery has reached its 5th year in business producing outstanding organic dairy products, we are certain Chuck will help us reach the next level of success,  while continuing to value our mission of sustainability.  We are so proud to have Chuck join us as our President and welcome both he and his family to the farm.

Dear Traders Point Creamery Customers and Friends,

The Traders Point area and our neighborhood is once again hosting the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest on the Farm! You may remember from last year that this event was started to raise funds for the completion of two (2) Traders Point rural historic districts, placement of signage designating these districts, and for the preservation of green space in our area. All proceeds have and will continue to go toward this cause. Last year, we raised over $10,000 and hope to do even better this year! The PolkaBoy band is back, more food and drink, and plenty of fun. This event is scheduled for Sunday, October 26th from 12:00 until 6:00pm.

My request is simple....we need volunteers! This is an excellent way to benefit the community, to preserve greenspace, and to enjoy a beautiful fall day. We need volunteers from 11:30-6:30pm. Three hour shifts are greatly preferred but not required. Older children are welcome to help as well. My son had a BLAST scooping ice cream last year!

Please donate just a few hours of your time to this cause by emailing Cindy Lamberjack at c_lamberjack001@comcast.net or calling 873-5934.

All of our efforts will only help strengthen the cohesiveness of this area and will truly benefit the historic and "green" feel of this area for generations to come. More details are available on the Creamery's website. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Thank you so much,
Cindy Lamberjack

Green Market

Green Market

October marks one of the months where the Green Market welcomes artists to the mix of local vendors.  This week we’ll be joined by a jeweler, a wool pillow maker and a photographer!  Many of you will remember our featured jewler and leatherworker, Mr. Aboubakar Allal from Niger.  His handmade silver and leatherwork is something to be seen (and worn)!  Our second artisan is a familiar face: Nancy Zennie of Zen Sheep Farm will be breaking out her much sought after wool pillows!  A perfect alternative to down, these organic wool pillows are a dream to sleep on!  Our third artisan is also a familiar face, one you normally associate with natural sweetness: the Burtons (of Burton’s Maplewood Farm) will be setting up a second booth for taking family photos!  They’ll have a set decorated in lovely Fall style, and using a digital camera and printer, take your photo and print it out for you right on the spot!  We’ll, of course, have all of our wonderful food and soap producers there for you as well.  What a great day we have in store for you!  We’ll see you on Friday!

There isn't enough room to describe every vendor or every product at the Green Market.  So, here's who is planning to be here this Friday, October 3rd:

Quotes and Fast Facts

Quotes and Fast Facts

I love fall! Fall is exciting.
It’s apples and cider.
It’s an airborne spider.
It’s pumpkins in bins.
It’s burrs on dog’s chins.
It’s wind blowing leaves.
It’s chilly red knees.
It’s nuts on the ground.
It’s a crisp dry sound.
It’s green leaves turning
And the smell of them burning.
It’s clouds in the sky.
It’s fall. That’s why…
I love fall.

Recipe of the Week

Recipe of the Week

Thai Coconut Rice

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
SERVES 4

2 cups Thai jasmine-scented white rice
2 cups coconut milk
1 3/4 cups water
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. canola or other vegetable oil
Optional: 1 tsp. white or brown sugar
Optional: 1 tsp. coconut flavoring

Preparation:
Rub oil over the bottom of a deep-sided pot. Note: the pot will need a tight-fitting lid.
Place rice, coconut milk, water, and salt in the pot. Place pot on the stove over medium to high heat. Stir well.
Add the sugar and flavoring, if using. Continue to stir occasionally until the coconut milk & water come to a gentle boil (stirring will keep the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot and burning).
Once the coconut-water has begun to gently bubble, stop stirring and turn down the heat to medium-low (around 2.5 on the dial). Place lid askew on the pot, allowing some of the steam to escape.
Cook in this way for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice has absorbed all (or nearly all) of the coconut-water.
Now turn off the heat, but leave the pot on the burner. Cover the pot tightly with the lid and allow to rest 5-10 minutes, or until you are ready to eat. The rice will "steam" and have a nice, slightly sticky texture). Tip: Your Coconut Rice can stay warm this way for up to 1 hour.
When ready to serve, remove the lid and "fluff" rice with a fork or chopsticks. Serve right out of the pot, or place in another bowl or container together with a rice scoup for serving. ENJOY!

NOTE: This recipe works best with Thai white (jasmine) rice. Other types of rice may not be as enhanced by the flavor of the coconut milk
