Author Michael Pollan Speaks at Butler University

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH
7:30 P.M.
Butler University

What do you know about the food you eat? Have you ever wondered about what to eat? The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals was named one of the ten best books of 2006 by the New York Times and the Washington Post.  Author Michael Pollan, Knight Professor of Science and Environmental Journalism at the University of California, Berkeley, wrote about deciding what to eat when faced with the modern industrial food system.

Hear him speak as part of The J. James Woods Lecture Series.   This series was established by a generous gift from the estate of J. James Woods. The goal of the Woods bequest is to bring prominent mathematicians and natural scientists to Butler University in order to speak on theories at the frontier of their disciplines, as well as on related technologies and other issues of public concern.

All Woods Lectures are free and open to the public.

The Green Market

Every Saturday until the end of April, no matter what the weather man says, we host Indiana's only year-round organic farmer's market from 9am-12noon.  Come on out this weekend to meet the people who grow the food or make the products you purchase!

The list below attempts to name those vendors who are regular, seasonal vendors who have not notified the Market Master of an absence as well as new vendors or those designated as weekly vendors who have requested a position for the weekend. Unfortunately, things can happen that prevent vendors from joining us even after this newsletter is posted on the internet and on our website. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause!

These are the vendors who will be here Saturday, January 26:
* Bluffwood Creek Honey-raw honey products, beeswax candles and soaps.
* Endangered Species Chocolate-organic and natural chocolate bars
* Flower Child Aromatherapy-handmade soaps, sachets, incense, perfumes * Grabow Orchards-breads, pies, dumplings, sorghum, apples, applesauce
* Harvest Cafe Coffee Company-coffee bean or fresh roasted coffees
* Harvest Lodge Catering-tamales, baked goods, caponatas, salsas
* Homestead Growers-mushrooms, mushroom patties, tomato sauce, raviolis
* Hoover's Country Store-bacon, ham and other pork products
* Murphy Farms- fresh chicken eggs
* New Day Meadery-a variety of honey meads
* Peace Leaf Tea-custom green tea blends and tea accessories
* Phelps Family Farm-a variety of meats and sausages, eggs
* Primitive Origins Herbcraft and Botanicals-tinctures, wild-crafted herbs
* Redwine- a variety of fresh and dehydrated vegetables and produce; beef; turkey and duck eggs
* Seldom Seen Farm-fresh spring mix, greens, and root vegetables
* Seven Springs Farm-beef, stewing hens, and eggs
* The Swiss Connection-unique cheeses, meats, ice cream, pet products
* Traders Point Creamery-a variety of Certified Organic non-homogenized dairy products and 100% grass-fed beef, chicken, free range eggs and gift items
* Valentine Hill-a variety of breads, baked goods and holiday items

Thanks for your support that made us not only Nuvo's Choice for #1 Farmer's Market; but, also Indy's Best Farmer's Market in 2007!

Farm Fresh Breakfast Every Saturday

Join us for a farm fresh breakfast every Saturday morning from 9 am-12 noon in The Loft. It's a great place to bring your family or friends and hang out.  Besides that, the Scrambled Eggs, Biscuits, American Fried Potatoes and Bacon on the breakfast buffet are the healthiest in town.  My personal favorite is the Oatmeal with all the fixings like brown sugar, nuts, raisins, and TPC Whole Milk.  Of course, if you are one of those that believes yogurt and granola is the only way to start the day then the Make-Your-Own Yogurt Parfait Bar is for you.  Perhaps you just want to find a great cup of Coffee?  The Harvest Cafe Coffee Company provides ours each week.  The best part is you can go out back to the Red Barn and buy the beans or watch Dave grind them for you to take home to enjoy!  We also have Organic Orange Jice, TPC Whole Milk, TPC Chocolate Milk and that same chocolate milk heated up for the most delicious Hot Chocolate you've ever had plus a variety of Teas.  Let me just add that even while the thermometer says 21 degrees with a wind chill of 8, the Dairy Bar is open during breakfast.  If you prefer Smoothies or Milkshakes, we'll be happy to make one for you.  We can even throw in an egg or two if you like.

Lunch in The Loft

Lunch in The Loft

Join us for lunch in the Creamery Loft Wednesday-Saturday from 11:30-2pm. We have a unique menu in that we strive to use locally grown or produced, fresh, in season, organic ingredients to create our menu. (Of course, that's true for our breakfasts and dinners, too!)

You'll find your favorites like hamburgers and grilled cheese; but, they are made with 100% grass-fed beef from TPC and our own Fleur de la Terre. The whole menu is available online at www.traderspointcreamery.com. You have to just stop by to see what specials the chef is offering.

The setting of the Creamery Loft also adds to the uniqueness of lunch at Traders Point Creamery. The Creamery Loft is upstairs in our Dairy Barn which is one of several barns on the property. You may be thinking a barn is just a barn; but, our barns are original, refurbished barns from the 1800's that were saved from demolition, purchased and moved here. You can see the original hand hewn marks in the wood and the pegs used to hold it all together. It's a history lesson in and of itself!

So, come on out and spend the day on the farm. You can join us for lunch and the milking, breakfast and a tour, or come for the milking and stay around for dinner. The point is to come join us because we think we have something pretty special to offer whether you are a history buff, a nature buff, or you just enjoy great food!

Candle Light Nights in The Loft

Traders Point Creamery serves dinner Friday and Saturday nights from 6-9pm. The Loft transforms into a dazzling setting complete with white tablecloths and candle lit tables. Even the menu is unique in that we create our offerings based on seasonal availability and make every effort to purchase local sustainable ingredients that are organic.

In the past, we have offered a price fixed menu where the choice of starter and entree was yours to make for one price. Now, we are offering a full menu of Appetizers, Soup and Salad, and Entrees with each item priced separately. This weekend's menu includes the following:

Appetizers
Traders Point Cheese Plate
Zucchini Fritters
Creamy Mushroom Ragout

Soup and Salad
Traders Point Signature Salad
Roasted Beet Salad
French Onion Soup

Entrees
Oven Roasted Half Chicken
Three Cheese Manicotti
Pan-Seared Strip Steak
Honey Glazed Pork Loin

Chouda Chouda Chouda

We have received great responses to our Chouda naming contest and please, please keep them coming.  Some of our favorites so far are 'Dutch Cheddar' and 'Gouda Gold'.  We would really like to incorporate our Indiana heritage into a rustically sophisticated name that will easily represent Traders Point Creamery.  Send your suggestions to info@tpforganics.com.

Where to find us-Grant Street Inn

Where to find us-Grant Street Inn

We are so pleased to announce that the Grant Street Inn has started using our yogurts and cheeses on their breakfast menu.  The award winning twenty-four room Bed and Breakfast is located in the heart of Bloomington, just two blocks from Indiana University and four blocks from  Courthouse Square.  Chef Paul Larsick is serving our yogurts with their homemade Fruit and Nut Granola and baking with our yogurts to make healthy and moist muffins.  Breakfast is available to guests of the inn every morning in their sunny and quaint dinning room.  For more information on the Grant Street Inn go to www.grantsinn.com.

Recycle Here

Our philosophy here at Traders Point Creamery is to "Nourish The Land That Nourishes Us All".  We believe recycling is one way to nourish.  Instead of throwing out plastic, cardboard, newsprint, glass or aluminum, please recycle!  If recycling is not available in your area, please feel free to drop your recyclables in the appropriate bins at the end of our customer parking lot.    We have large dumpsters dedicated solely to newspaper and cardboard with smaller plastic bins for glass, plastic and aluminum recycling.

Many of you ask if our bottles are returnable.  They are not at this time.  We are working toward being able to reuse the bottles in the future.  However, now, we are only able to recycle the glass and plastic containers that we use for our products.

We also recycle egg cartons for our eggs.  Feel free to return the cartons to the farm store for a refill or for the next person.

Thank you for all you do to help us nourish and sustain!
