Happy New Year!
Traders Point Creamery wants to be a part of your new year celebrations! We are working now on our calendar of special events we'll have out here at the farm throughout the year. Of course, Mother's Day, Oktoberfest, Christmas on the Farm and our special Holiday Dinner will be celebrated again. But, we're also adding special events like our fifth anniversary celebration this summer and more special dinners like the Hot Tamale Party.
Maybe you are bothered by big crowds and prefer instead quiet, more intimate gatherings. You can make your reservations now for Valentine's Day! We'll have a special menu available for Thursday, Friday and Saturday night that week. Really, any of our regular lunch and dinner service hours offers intimate dining. We've had everything from bottles of champgne shared all around when a couple announced their engagement to a couple who had coffee, took a tour, then ate breakfast one day and came back the next for lunch. You can even sit at the bar for lunch if you come by yourself and would like some company. You'll find by the time you leave, we know your name and look forward to when you'll come back.
Even though we offer views of cows munching on grass, gorgeous sunsets, and rolling hills instead of the possibility of your favorite game, you can watch for the big white waffle cone in the Dairy Bar to turn blue as the Colt's progress thru the playoffs! It can turn green in honor of St. Patrick's Day, too!

Also new this weekend is Greg Monzel of Primitive Origins Herbcraft and Botanicals. Greg is bringing his experience as an herbalist as well as the wild-crafted herbs he's gathered to the market. Rise and Shine
Join us for breakfast every Saturday morning from 9 am-12 noon in the Creamery Loft. If you've gotten used to the usual, we've changed it up a bit for the new year! This weekend, we're serving up Scrambled Eggs, Biscuits, American Fried Potatoes and Bacon on the breakfast buffet. Kids meals are offered at a different price. Oatmeal will now be offered separately of the buffet. (We offer all the toppings like brown sugar, nuts, raisins, and milk to make it delicious!) If you prefer lighter fare for breakfast, the Make-Your-Own Yogurt Parfait Bar, where you add your own fruit and granola to your favorite Traders Point Creamery Yogurt, is available in two sizes-small and large. We have also added organic orange juice! Of course, we heat up our own chocolate milk to make hot chocolate and serve organic coffee and tea as
well. Breakfast is served out of the Dairy Bar so milkshakes and ice cream are available as well.
Lunch in the Creamery Loft
Join us for lunch in the Creamery Loft Wednesday-Saturday from 11:30-2pm. We have a unique menu in that we strive to use locally grown or produced, fresh, in season, organic ingredients to create our menu. (Of course, that's true for our breakfasts and dinners, too!)
You'll find your favorites like hamburgers and grilled cheese; but, they are made with 100% grass-fed beef from TPC and our own Fleur de la Terre. The whole menu is available online at www.traderspointcreamery.com. You have to just stop by to see what specials the chef is offering.
The setting of the Creamery Loft also adds to the uniqueness of lunch at Traders Point Creamery. The Creamery Loft is upstairs in our Dairy Barn which is one of several barns on the property. You may be thinking a barn is just a barn; but, our barns are original, refurbished barns from the 1800's that were saved from demolition, purchased and moved here. You can see the original hand hewn marks in the wood and the pegs used to hold it all together. It's a history lesson in and of itself!
So, come on out and spend the day on the farm. You can join us for lunch and the milking, breakfast and a tour, or come for the milking and stay around for dinner. The point is to come join us because we think we have something pretty special to offer whether you are a history buff, a nature buff, or you just enjoy great food!
Friday and Saturday Night Dinner
Traders Point Creamery serves dinner Friday and Saturday night from 6-9pm. The Loft transforms into a dazzling setting complete with white tablecloths and candle lit tables. Even the menu is unique in that we create our offerings based on seasonal availability and make every effort to purchase local sustainable ingredients that are organic.
In the past, we have offered a price fixed menu where the choice of starter and entree was yours to make for one price. Now, we are offering a full menu of Appetizers, Soup and Salad, and Entrees with each item priced separately. This weekend's menu includes the following:
Appetizers
Traders Point Cheese Plate
Zucchini Fritters
Creamy Mushroom Ragout
Soup and Salad
Traders Point Signature Salad
Roasted Beet Salad
French Onion Soup
Entrees
Oven Roasted Half Chicken
Three Cheese Manicotti
Pan-Seared Strip Steak
Honey Glazed Pork Loin
Recipe of the Week
Folks, we have had numerous calls this week asking for recipes that use our Whole Milk Yogurt. I am not including a recipe per say this week; but, a resource. Her name is Victoria Wesseler. This lady is incredible! I met her last summer when she came to the market. I fell in love the next weekend when she returned with a quart of fresh strawberries from her garden! Besides being a Master Gardener, she is also a great cook. This is no "must follow the recipe" kind of gal. In fact, she was recently chosen as a finalist in a Martha Stewart contest and got to meet Martha herself!
Anyway, back to this week's recipe being a resource. Victoria has since started a website. You can access it by visiting www.goinglocal-info.com
. This week's blog dated January 5, 2008 is titled 'Like Yogurt for Oil' . I recommend you visit the site to read the whole article as well as visit for other recipes and information; but, I have reprinted how to create yogurt cheese and strained yogurt here with her permission.
'Substituting yogurt for oil in most quick breads and dense muffin recipes works exceptionally well and is a healthy eater's dream come true. I don't notice a difference in the final product and this substitution significantly reduces the calories and fat grams in the recipe. A half cup of oil has 955 calories and 108 grams of fat. A cup of the Trader's Point Creamery Whole Milk Yogurt (which will strain down to a half cup) has 160 calories and 9 grams of fat. Do the math! Plus you're getting calcium with the yogurt. You have got to try this recipe to appreciate how good it is.
To make the yogurt cheese, just take a fine mesh strainer and place it over a bowl, line the strainer with a paper towel or paper coffee filter and pour the yogurt into the strainer. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 24 hours. The yogurt will be thick, creamy and spreadable. Add your favorite fresh herbs, salt, and maybe a bit of lemon zest. Use on crackers for a quick guilt free spread or to top a hot baked potato.
If you just happen to have a warm berry crisp on hand or frozen berries to make one with (you'll find my perfect blackberry crisp recipe in the Summer Recipe Section on this site), make the frozen yogurt. Simply strain the yogurt as you would for the yogurt cheese and process the strained yogurt in an ice cream machine for about 20-30 minutes. This is best the same day that it's made. If you do freeze it for future use, let it thaw a few minutes before serving.I know it sounds odd not to add any sugar or flavorings to the yogurt, but this frozen yogurt's silky texture and slight tang will snuggle up to the sweetness of that crisp like a marriage made in heaven.'
Didn't I say she was incredible?! Thanks, Victoria!
