Food Inc.: Is Your Food Factory or Fresh?
"The way we eat has changed more in the last 50 years than in the previous 10,000 years."
That's a quote from "Food Inc.", a movie we Creamery folk highly recommend to all our readers! Food Inc. is an expose on how industrialized, commodized, and sometimes just plain unhealthy our food chain has become. If you have tasted the freshness of our Creamery products, and know that there's a difference between that and the mega-farm milk products you buy at the grocery store, then we think this is a film for YOU!
It includes interviews with experts in this arena, such as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma; In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto) and Stonyfield's Gary Hirshberg and Polyface Farms' Joel Salatin. These may be names you recognize; some of them may be new...whether you're just learning about and commiting to local, organic, sustainable food or you're a veteran, this movie will leave you shaking your fist and jumping for joy!
It's a movie who's time has come - the sustainable food movement is ready for primetime! Be a part of this exhilirating experience.
"When we run an item past the supermarket scanner, we're voting for local or not, organic or not..." As someone who has asked to be on our newsletter distribution list, you're likely already using your "food $$$" to vote for what you believe in - local, organic, sustainable, real food. Come watch this movement take hold as "Food Inc." grips America! You can say, "I told you so!" or "Hallelujah!" to the person sitting next to you.

Recipe of the Week
Summertime is prime zucchini season. Pick up a few zucchinis at a farmer's market (or from your own garden!), and a bottle of Trader's Point Creamery Plain Yogurt and you have the making for a great summertime salad.
Zucchini-Yogurt Salad
- 1 1/2 lbs of zucchini (about 4 smaller zucchinis) - grated
- salt
- bunch of green onions
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 cup Trader's Point Creamery Plain Yogurt
- freshly ground pepper
- any fresh cut herbs - dill, tarragon, parsley or thyme work nicely
Place grated zucchini in a colander and salt somewhat liberally. Let stand for 15 minutes allowing water from zucchini to drain. Chop green onions. Wring out as much liquid as possible from the zucchini. Heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add green onions and saute for 2 minutes. Add zucchini and saute for 3-5 minutes. Turn heat down to medium-low and continue cooking zucchini and onions for 5 more minutes. Remove pan from heat and let cool for a few minutes. When cool enough not to curdle the yogurt, stir in yogurt, pepper, and fresh herbs. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Quote of the Week
"Cooking has many functions, and only one of them is about feeding people. When we go into a kitchen, indeed when we ever just think about going into a kitchen, we are both creating and responding to an idea we hold about ourselves, abotu what kind of person we are or wish to be. How we eat and what we eat lies at the heart of who we are - as individuals, famalies, communities."
Nigella Lawson, Feast: Food to Celebrate Life
